Brigadier General Steven Flohr
23rd White Sands Missile Range Commander

Brigadier General Steven W. Flohr was the 23rd Commander of White Sands Missile Range. Prior to this assignment, BG Flohr served as Deputy Commander of the United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command. Brigadier General Flohr was also the Director of the Space and Missile Defense Acquisition Center which includes the Army Space Program Office, the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS) Project Office, the Ballistic Missile Targets Joint Project Office (BMTJPO), the United States Army Kwajalein Atoll/Kwajalein Missile Range, and the High Energy Laser Systems Test Facility (HELSTF).
Previously, Brigadier General Flohr served as Project Manager, Multiple Launch Rocket System, in the Program Executive Office, Tactical Missiles. His other military assignments include: Product Manager of the Improved Army Tactical Missile System, Logistics Staff Officer, Supply and Maintenance Directorate, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Department of the Army; Project Manager’s Representative for the Multiple Launch Rocket System in Seckenheim, Germany; Research and Development Coordinator for the Ballistic Missile Defense Advanced Technology Center, Huntsville, Alabama; Materiel Officer and Missile Support Company Commander for the 707th Maintenance Battalion and Forward Area Support Coordinator for the 7th Infantry Division Support Command, 7th Infantry Division, Fort Ord, California; and Direct Support Platoon Leader of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery, Wackerheim, Germany. Brigadier General Flohr served as a Mechanical Engineer for the National Range Operations, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, in his first active duty assignment.
BG Flohr graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska, with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1971. He received a master of business administration degree from Florida Institute of Technology in 1978. He was commissioned into the Ordnance Branch and is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the Executive Program Manager’s Course at the Defense Systems Management College.
His military awards include the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Superior Unit Award, and the Department of Army Staff Badge.
Brigadier General Flohr is married to the former Sue Thompson of Storm Lake, Iowa. Their daughter, Cari Ossenfort graduated from Auburn University, in Alabama. Their son Dan also graduated from Auburn University.
