Colonel Andrew R. Morgan, an Army Astronaut and Space Operations Officer, assumed Command of White Sands Missile Range on 24 June 2025. Colonel Morgan most recently served as Commander, U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll and U.S. Army Garrison, Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, from June 2023 to June 2025.

Before commanding at Kwajalein Atoll, Colonel Morgan served as the Army NASA Detachment Commander and Senior Army Astronaut at the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, NASA Detachment, Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX. From July 2019 to April 2020, he was a flight engineer and U.S. Segment Lead (Expedition 61) aboard the International Space Station during Expeditions 60, 61, and 62. During his nine-month mission, he performed seven spacewalks, conducted robotic operations, and completed hundreds of scientific and maintenance activities. In his ten years at NASA, his assignments included roles as a T-38N aircrew member, space suit subject matter expert, operations officer, astronaut selection board member, mission support branch chief, and astronaut liaison to the Mission Control Center Team for Expeditions 67 and 68.

Prior to being selected as a NASA Astronaut in 2013, Colonel Morgan was a board-certified emergency medicine physician with subspecialty training in primary care sports medicine. He is a rated master flight surgeon and a qualified special operations diving medical officer. His previous assignments included service as a staff emergency physician, a special mission unit medical team member, Battalion Surgeon for 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Special Operations Task Force Surgeon (Operation Enduring Freedom), and Brigade Surgeon/Medical Troop Commander in a special mission unit. He deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa in support of combat operations and exercises.

Colonel Morgan was commissioned as an officer upon graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, in 1998, and earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, in 2002. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College. His military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star Medal, along with the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Achievement Medal, and Space Exploration Medal. He has earned the Combat Medical Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, Master Flight Surgeon Badge, Master Space Badge with Astronaut device, basic airborne parachutist badge, military freefall (HALO/HAHO) parachutist badge, special operations combat diver badge, and the Ranger tab.

Colonel Morgan has been married to his wife, Stacey, for 25 years, and they have four children: Daniel (entering his senior year at West Point), Amelia (entering her sophomore year at the University of Pennsylvania), and Sophia and Gabriella (entering their junior and freshman years of high school).
